Mayor Honors Small Steps Community Garden with Keep Houston Beautiful Proud Partner Award

December 12, 2008

This fall, UBS, Robert Magner, and Small Steps Nurturing Center were awarded the 2008 Mayor’s Proud Partner Award on behalf of Keep Houston Beautiful for the Small Steps Community Garden.   The Community Garden was built and planted in October 2007 at our Jensen campus in the Fifth Ward and consists of 9 (40-feet) beds growing vegetables and flowers.

The garden could not have been created without the support of UBS or Robert Magner.  Mr. Magner, one of Small Steps’ board members, donated the land; while UBS not only paid for a large part of the garden expenses, but also brought out 40 volunteers on two separate occasions to build the concrete walls of the garden beds and prepare the beds for planting.  Thank you to everyone for making this project possible!
