Small Steps Reaccredited by NAEYC Through 2014; Only Six Percent Of Houston’s Schools Receive This Honor
Small Steps Nurturing Center has just received some very good news! We have been reaccredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for another five years, through 2014. This achievement is only reached by the top 6% of Houston’s schools and 4% of schools in Texas.
NAEYC is the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals. NAEYC created its accreditation program in 1985 to set professional standards for early childhood education, and to help families identify high-quality child care and early education program. To earn NAEYC’s accreditation, a program conducts a self-study to determine how well it meets the standards. After necessary improvements are made, the program is observed by independent, professional validators, and then reviewed by a national panel.
We at Small Steps are so proud of this great achievement! NAEYC Accreditation lets families in our community know that children in our program are getting the best care and early learning experience. As our DePelchin campus program director Hermette Ward reinforces, “of course, the reason for it all is to provide the best for our children.”
We are especially proud of our wonderful program directors, Kathie Hartzog and Hermette Ward, for their many months of preparation and paperwork, and of our hard-working teachers who diligently compiled classroom portfolios and were observed in-class during the validation process.
