About SSNC

Welcome to Small Steps Nurturing Center!  Small Steps is a nationally accredited school for economically at-risk students ages two through six in the inner city of Houston, Texas.  Small Steps has two locations: one in the First Ward and one in the Fifth Ward.

The nurturing environment of Small Steps provides students not only with a strong academic program but with attention to the needs of the whole child as well.  Small Steps provides our students with:

Small Steps began as an outreach to young children in a city park over a decade ago.  Since then, Small Steps has expanded into two schools and continues to reach more students each year.  To read more about the history of Small Steps, please visit our History page. 

Small Steps is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been recognized by Charity Navigator as among the highest 4% of charities that they evaluate.   In November 2008, Charity Navigator announced that Small Steps earned its fifth consecutive 4-star rating for Small Steps’ fiscal responsibility.  Charity Navigator reports that this “‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Small Steps Nurturing Center… and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”  For more information on the finances of Small Steps, please visit our Financial Information page.
