Small Steps Nurturing Center
Small Steps' mission is to provide an exemplary early childhood program to instill and foster the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth of economically at-risk children and their families.
Small Steps In A Snapshot
- Small Steps Nurturing Center is an accredited (NAEYC) early childhood program serving economically at-risk children two years old through Kindergarten.
- The program offers a ten month a year, full day, high quality educational program at two campuses in the First Ward and Fifth Ward of Houston, Texas.
- Qualifying students live in the zip codes surrounding the two schools and have family incomes qualifying for the free portion of the National School Lunch Program.
- There is no financial cost to families; families contribute volunteer hours.
- Small Steps is funded through the generosity of corporate, individual, foundation and church donations, and through the success of its two annual sporting events, the Small Steps Energy Classic and the Small Steps Clays Classic.
- The variety and depth of programs offered at Small Steps is made possible by an invaluable corps of volunteers. In 2005, 396 volunteers contributed over 3,000 hours of volunteer time.
- Small Steps' two campuses are located at 1709 DePelchin (First Ward) and 2902 Jensen (Fifth Ward).
